CMNS 3550 ePortfolio Part 2: Communications Plan

CAPTION: Example drawn from Achieving Sustainable Urban Renewal in Hong Kong: Strategy for Dilapidation Assessment of High Rises of a survey conducted with participants. (Author Daniel Chi Wing Ho; Yung Yau; Sun Wah Poon; and Ervi Liusman)

The city of Burgundy is not the only case where innocent citizens are forced to leave their houses and are being moved into different places. In most cases, a spokesperson from the city would support their arguments with smart and analytical messages to persuade not only the elders but everyone who might be in their way of gentrification. We, the Citizen’s Committee of Saint Martin’s Blocks, are dedicated to showing and teaching other communities about our story and how we achieved to become the first public housing under Quebec’s provincial housing authority. While reaching out to neighboring towns with similar issues, we are advertising our workshops and external seminars. This blog campaign proposes a two-stream knowledge delivery about the know-how to navigate through the bureaucracy of Quebec’s provincial housing authority and become an equal voice in discussions concerning your own community. We are laying out two paths which include in-person seminars in your own town through our professional agents and workshops in Burgundy headquarters with different courses that are sustainable and in-depth for the future development of the community.

Audience

This blog campaign is exclusively for housing crisis communities who are in dispute or disagreement with the town about their explorations deals with the city hall. As well as poor housing communities who are aiming on having better communication with their city hall and their representatives. We are also considering teaching employees from the city hall better communication paths with their community to build a foundation of common interest and trust.

Research

Interviews and a short questionnaire with the 300 homeowners who received exploration letters will help to create a database for the blog campaign. In the questionnaire, in-depth questions are being asked about their experience during and after the period while being moved and their engagement with the committee of Saint Martins Blocks. Included are as well 20 different questions from general satisfaction to suggestions about communication improvements. At the same time, we are deducting phone surveys with the participating towns. These surveys will help to elicit the needs, issues, and concerns of the community. The study Poverty Issues Perceived by the Poor: An Analysis of Differential Perceptions by Shirley Levine in 1969 offers insight into the perceptions in three different low-income groups.

We are focusing on gathered information through the phone and in-person surveys to create new programs and workshops for the needs of the different city and their issues. It is important to analyze and categorize the files to create a data-based that is sustainable for future inquiries.

Spokespeople

The housing crisis in urban renewal is a common issue that has to be addressed. City Hall and their ideas of leaving everything behind and starting over life is a difficult task to ask for many citizens. The president and various members of the committee of Saint Martins Blocks will share their experience and gathered data. It is important to include guest speakers from other towns in order to have a diverse voice in this matter. We will start by releasing short articles every month that features at least one committee member and a guest speaker. Through this method, we want to assure that the audience has comparable articles with different experiences about the same subject.

Content

Our campaign is designed to educate other communities and provide them with a database that they can use in the future. The program features various ways for other communities to access the information that they need. We ensure that everyone who is interested in this topic has the chance to learn and adapt the teachings for their benefit. Our phone service is accessible from Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm (tel.260.336.556). It is planned to send the professional agents on further seminars to ensure that they are equipped with the newest regulations.

Calendar

The seminars are offered weekly in person and individual meetings can be pre-booked and ordered. For the first three months, public events will ensure to draw more attention to the program and build connections between communities

Conclusion

This two-way stream of knowledge delivery to the participating communities and members. We ensure to stay engaged and in touch with all participants to help them develop their plans.
